The Global Reinsurance division of Bermuda-headquartered Sompo International spearheaded the firm’s Q1 performance for fiscal year 2026, delivering significant revenue growth of 91.8% to reach $1.55 billion, up from $810 million in the same period of 2025.
According to Sompo International, the expansion in reinsurance top-line was primarily propelled by the ongoing integration of Aspen alongside strong casualty line renewals.
Despite the rapid portfolio expansion, underwriting profitability in Global Reinsurance remained robust, with the segment posting a discounted combined ratio of 77.1% for Q1 2026, representing a modest 1.8 percentage point uptick from 75.2% in the prior-year period, largely influenced by casualty dynamics.
Overall, Sompo International reported a 42.4% increase in total insurance revenue to $5.55 billion for Q1 2026, compared to $3.90 billion in 1Q 2025.
Across the entire business, adjusted profit reached $423 million in Q1 2026, marking a $51 million increase year-on-year and tracking at 24% toward the full-year target of $1.74 billion.

Performance across Sompo International’s other primary operational divisions also reflected positive top-line growth.
Notably, Commercial Insurance revenue rose 31.2% year-on-year to $3.63 billion in Q1 2026, reportedly boosted by Aspen’s contribution in casualty and professional lines, as well as expansion in agriculture. Commercial underwriting delivered a discounted combined ratio of 88.4%, up slightly by 0.4 percentage points.
Meanwhile, Consumer Insurance posted a 13.4% top-line gain to $363 million in Q1 2026, though its underwriting profitability was severely impacted by inflationary pressures on claims within Turkey Motor, pushing the segment’s combined ratio up 20.6 percentage points to 117.9%.
Sompo International reported a group discounted combined ratio of 87.6% for Q1 2026, compared to 85.7% in 1Q 2025, while the undiscounted combined ratio stood at 97.4%.
