Some partnerships are routine, and some show where a whole field is heading. The deal Zawyer Sports & Entertainment announced Oct. 22 is the second kind. ZSE’s Jacksonville Icemen of the ECHL and Jacksonville Waves of the UPSHOT League have partnered with Xenco Medical. The company’s XenVision AI platform will be central to how the teams understand, protect and develop their athletes.
For Xenco Medical, it’s more proof that its ambitions reach well past the operating room. Spine surgeons may know the company for its biomimetic implants and composite polymer surgical systems. Its portfolio now covers the full span of care, including regenerative biomaterials, immersive surgical imaging and AI-driven digital health tools. What ties it together is a belief that care has been fragmented for too long, and that devices and software should work as one system built around outcomes.
XenVision may be the clearest example of that idea yet. Using computer vision, markerless motion capture and artificial intelligence, the platform completes a detailed biomechanical evaluation in under two minutes. There are no sensors strapped to the body, no reflective markers and no lab. An athlete simply moves, and the system measures what that movement shows with impressive precision.
The Icemen and Waves aren’t using XenVision for a single snapshot. They’re building a season-long monitoring program that sets an individual biomechanical baseline for every athlete and then tracks how it changes. That includes how each joint moves and how far, whether the left and right sides are falling out of balance, how steady the athlete’s posture is, and where the body has started to compensate. Staff will combine these repeated measurements with athlete-specific statistical modeling and sports medicine expertise. The result is an objective basis for tailoring training, personalizing recovery and monitoring rehabilitation, built on what Xenco calls each athlete’s biomechanical digital phenotype.
This marks a real shift for sports medicine. Instead of responding after an injury happens, teams can watch musculoskeletal function change over time and act on what they see.
“We are thrilled by the Jacksonville Icemen’s embrace of XenVision in a way that so powerfully illustrates what we believe is the future of athletic performance and musculoskeletal health. Constantly adapting to load, to fatigue, to recovery, to the relentless rhythm of a season, the body of a professional hockey player is a story written in motion. The Icemen’s installation of XenVision to build a longitudinal portrait of each athlete throughout the course of the season, growing more revealing with every assessment, marks what we believe to be one of the most exciting moments in sports science,” said Xenco Medical Founder and CEO Jason Haider.
For the spine and orthopedic community, the significance goes beyond the rink and the court. The capabilities that could help a coaching staff catch a developing asymmetry in a defenseman’s stride are objective, repeatable, sensor-free movement data captured in minutes. Those same capabilities speak directly to questions musculoskeletal clinicians ask every day: how a patient is really moving, whether rehabilitation is working, and where compensation is setting in. Xenco has made clear that its technology is meant to support patients well beyond surgery, through surgical planning, remote therapeutic monitoring, rehab engagement and data-driven clinical decisions.
Elite athletes have long been a proving ground for medical innovation. The Jacksonville Icemen and Waves season-long program using XenVision is ushering in an era in which musculoskeletal health is measured continuously, individually and long before something breaks. Xenco Medical is increasingly appearing as the company that saw it coming.
