Howden, a global insurance broking group specialising in insurance and risk management, has established a dedicated Sports & Entertainment practice in the US, with Robbie Henderson appointed to head the operation.
Henderson joined Howden in 2019 and, according to the company, has played a role in developing its sports and entertainment activities and supporting the group’s strategy across international markets.
In his new position, he will be responsible for expanding Howden’s presence in the US market and strengthening connections between its domestic operations and its international Sports & Entertainment network. He will be based in New York.
“Robbie’s reputation and expertise have earned the trust of some of the biggest names in sport, live entertainment, and media worldwide. Under his leadership, our US clients will have access to a level of global experience and insight that other brokers cannot provide,” commented Mike Parrish, CEO of Howden Americas.
Howden said insurance requirements within sports and entertainment are increasingly spanning multiple areas of exposure. Media rights, touring and live events can form part of the same client’s risk profile, with individual elements such as broadcasting arrangements, event cancellation and liability historically capable of being handled through separate insurance placements.

The model is designed to bring expertise across these areas together around individual client relationships, rather than treating each exposure in isolation.
“This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to lead our business in the largest Sport & Entertainment market in the world. We already have strong specialist expertise in the US and outstanding Sport & Entertainment capability across Howden, globally. Bringing those strengths together gives us a formidable proposition for our clients. My focus will be on building our domestic presence and connecting the US business with our global practice, giving clients access to the best of Howden, wherever that expertise sits,” added Henderson.
The new US practice will work with a broad range of clients across the sector, including professional sports franchises, touring artists, promoters, talent agencies and production companies. Its areas of expertise include event cancellation, non-appearance and prize indemnity insurance.
Howden said the US operation will also have access to the group’s wider Sports & Entertainment platform, which comprises 400 specialists operating across 23 countries. The company said the structure will enable its US clients to draw on expertise from across its international network alongside its domestic capabilities.
